What’s Included

What personal care assistance includes

Our caregivers provide hands-on support with the activities of daily living (ADLs) that have become difficult — always at home, always on your schedule.

Bathing & personal hygiene — safe, comfortable bathing support; especially vital in Houston’s heat where skin care and hygiene directly affect health
Dressing & grooming — weather-appropriate clothing, hair care, oral hygiene, and everyday grooming to preserve confidence and routine
Toileting & incontinence care — handled privately and respectfully, without compromising dignity
Mobility support — walking assistance, fall prevention, and safe navigation — critical on Houston homes’ tile flooring
Transfer assistance — safe movement between bed, chair, wheelchair, and bathroom
Medication reminders — non-medical prompts to stay on schedule with prescribed medications
Meal prep & hydration — nutritious meals with extra focus on fluid intake, critical during Houston’s May–September heat season when dehydration risk peaks

Local Context

Why Houston families need a locally-rooted provider

National home care chains don’t know that parts of Katy flood in July, that Sugar Land seniors may qualify for Fort Bend County programs, or that Houston’s summers are medically dangerous for older adults living alone. We do — and it shapes everything about how we deliver care.

🌡️
Houston Heat & Senior Health

With summer highs regularly exceeding 100°F and a heat index that can reach 115°F, Houston poses serious risks for seniors — especially those with limited mobility who cannot manage their own hygiene or hydration. Dehydration and heat exhaustion are leading drivers of emergency hospital visits among Houston seniors from May through September. Our caregivers follow Houston-specific heat safety protocols: hydration schedules, cooling routines, and clear escalation steps when warning signs appear.

🌪️
Storm & Flood Continuity Plans

Houston is one of the most flood-prone metropolitan areas in the U.S. Our care coordinators build continuity plans for every client in flood-risk communities — including neighborhoods in Katy, Meyerland, Kingwood, and Friendswood — so care does not stop when the weather turns. We know which routes flood, and we plan around it.

🏥
Coordinating with Houston’s Medical Community

We work alongside discharge planners at Houston Methodist, Memorial Hermann, UTMB, and other Texas Medical Center-affiliated facilities to arrange personal care before or shortly after discharge — often within 48 hours. Caregivers follow written physician care plans and communicate changes directly to families.

📋
Harris & Fort Bend County Resources

CareWorks works in partnership with the Harris County Area Agency on Aging (HCAAA) and the Houston-Galveston Area Council Area Agency on Aging (H-GAC AAA), which serves Fort Bend, Brazoria, and surrounding counties. We connect families with Medicaid PHC and CAS benefits, Veterans programs, and local safety-net services many families don’t know they qualify for.

🗣️
Bilingual Care for a Diverse City

Greater Houston is the most ethnically diverse major city in the United States. We offer English and Spanish-speaking caregivers across our service area — from southwest Houston’s large Hispanic communities to Bellaire, Stafford, and Fort Bend County — and match on cultural familiarity as well as clinical needs.

🏠
Houston Homes & Fall Risk

Hard tile and stone flooring is standard throughout Houston homes — visually appealing, but particularly hazardous for seniors with limited balance or coordination. Our caregivers conduct a home safety walkthrough at every new placement, identify fall risks, and implement mobility support routines specific to the home’s layout.

How We Match

How we match caregivers to clients

A good caregiver match is about more than availability. We take the time to understand your loved one’s personality, daily routine, preferences, and comfort level — and then find a caregiver who fits, not just one who’s available.

Caregiver and Houston senior building rapport at home
Matched by personality, communication style, and daily routine
Language preferences accommodated — English and Spanish available
Schedule-matched so care fits naturally into existing routines
All caregivers are HCSSA-licensed, background-checked, and insured
We introduce backup caregivers in advance — no strangers at the door
Care plans reviewed every 30 days and updated as needs change

Flexible Scheduling

Care that fits your schedule — and your budget

Houston families have different needs. Some clients need a few hours of morning help each day. Others need daily visits, overnight coverage, or full-time live-in care. We build a schedule around your loved one’s life — not ours.

🕐
Hourly visits

A few hours each morning or evening — ideal for clients who need help with bathing and dressing but are largely independent otherwise. Common in Sugar Land, Katy, and Cypress.

📅
Daily & multi-visit care

Regular daily visits covering morning routines, meals, and evening care. Especially valuable for seniors with limited mobility or those recovering from a procedure at Houston Methodist or Memorial Hermann.

🌙
Overnight & full-time care

Around-the-clock support for clients who need continuous help or supervision. Overnight care is also an option for family members who need rest from their own caregiving responsibilities.

Who We Help

Who benefits from personal care assistance

Personal care assistance supports a wide range of Houston residents — from seniors managing age-related changes to adults recovering from surgery or living with chronic illness.

Houston senior receiving in-home personal care assistance
Seniors with limited mobility

Older adults who can no longer safely manage bathing, dressing, or moving around the home independently — especially during Houston’s heat season when outdoor activity drops and isolation increases.

Post-surgery recovery

Clients returning home from Houston Methodist, Memorial Hermann, St. Luke’s, or other Houston-area hospitals often need temporary ADL support during recovery. We can start care within 24–72 hours of discharge.

Chronic conditions — stroke, Parkinson’s, diabetes

Ongoing daily care for Houston residents managing conditions that affect mobility, hygiene, and daily function. Our caregivers are experienced with the routines these conditions require.

Family caregivers who need relief

When a family member in the Houston area is providing most of the care, a consistent professional aide provides scheduled relief — protecting the wellbeing of both the caregiver and the client.

🌡️
A note on Houston summers

Houston averages more than 100 days per year above 90°F. For seniors with limited mobility who cannot bathe, dress in lightweight clothing, or manage their own hydration, Houston’s summer is a genuine medical risk period. Regular personal care visits during June–September are among the most impactful interventions a family can provide.

How We Work

A care approach families can feel good about

We focus on consistency, communication, and practical support — so clients feel safe at home and families stay informed.

Free in-home assessment

We visit your Houston-area home to assess care needs, evaluate fall hazards and heat risks, and confirm Medicaid CAS or other benefit eligibility — completely free.

Caregiver match

4
Care begins

Often same-week. Care plans reviewed every 30 days. Medicaid, VA, and LTC insurance paperwork handled entirely by us.

Common Questions

Personal care assistance FAQ

Quick answers for Houston families exploring in-home personal care.

We prioritize consistency. Every client is assigned a primary caregiver who learns their routine, preferences, and personality over time. When a backup caregiver is needed — due to illness or scheduling — we introduce them in advance so your loved one is never greeted by a stranger. For seniors with memory loss or anxiety around change, this consistency is especially important.
Yes. In most cases we can arrange care within 24–72 hours in the Greater Houston area. For clients being discharged from Houston Methodist, Memorial Hermann, UTMB, or other local hospitals, we work with discharge planners to place care before or shortly after the client returns home. Same-week starts are common for private-pay clients.
Yes. CareWorks Houston accepts Medicaid Community Attendant Services (CAS), a program through Texas HHSC CCAD that covers personal care for eligible seniors and adults with disabilities. We also accept Primary Home Care (PHC), another CCAD program for clients who may not qualify for Medicaid but still need assistance. We handle the application, enrollment, and billing — your family does not need to navigate Texas HHSC alone.
Yes — Fort Bend County is one of our primary service areas. We serve Sugar Land, Missouri City, Richmond, Rosenberg, Stafford, and Sienna Plantation. We also partner with the H-GAC Area Agency on Aging, which serves Fort Bend, Brazoria, and surrounding counties, to connect clients with every benefit they’re eligible for.
No. CareWorks Houston provides non-medical personal care — help with ADLs like bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility. We are not a skilled nursing or home health agency. For skilled medical services such as wound care, IV therapy, or physical therapy, we can help coordinate with appropriate providers in the Houston medical community.
Our Houston caregivers follow specific heat safety protocols during warm months (May–September): regular hydration check-ins, lightweight clothing assistance, home temperature monitoring, and clear escalation steps if a client shows signs of heat exhaustion. We are also familiar with the City of Houston’s Cooling Center network and can help coordinate access for vulnerable clients when needed.
Yes. Houston is one of the most linguistically diverse cities in the U.S. We offer English and Spanish-speaking caregivers across our service area. If language or cultural background is important to your family, let us know during the free assessment and we’ll match accordingly.
